Lent begins with the liturgy of Ash Wednesday on Wednesday 17th February. Due to the restrictions and risk we are not able to attend this in person but each household on the electoral roll will receive a Lent envelope with aides to observe Ash Wednesday and Lent.
A livestream of the Eucharist will take place at 10.00am (click below) and Book of Common Prayer Evening Prayer from St Andrews, will be provided at 7pm (in place of the usual Compline).
Lent in the United Benefice - Non-Physical Plans...
Sadly, an 'in-person' Lent observance is looking less and less likely this year. Therefore, The Rector has made plans for offline and online ways that we can still keep this time of preparation as we look towards Passiontide and Easter. To this end she has prepared a spiritual resources booklet 'Lent at Home' which you can view or download here. As a United Benefice she also hopes that we will pick up 'Candles in the Dark' as a shared Lent book for study and reflection, keep the stations of the cross each week, and perhaps renew a commitment to the routine of daily prayer.
'Candles in the Dark' by Rowan Williams
Faith, hope and love in a time of pandemic.
During 2020 the former Archbishop of Canterbury wrote a number of short reflections for the parish of St Clements in Cambridge that picked up on themes and experiences during the pandemic. These little works have been put into a book which was published in October 2020. For our parish Lent study this year, I am recommending that we read through this wonderful little book of homilies and we will explore four of them in greater depth through an accompanying Zoom book group. The discussion questions can also be provided for those who do not Zoom.
If you would like to order a copy of the book for £7.50 and attend the Zoom Book Group (or receive the materials), please let The Rector know:
